शोले फिल्म के गब्बर सिंह को कौन भूल सकता है। और उसकी खोह? वो फिल्म तो उत्तर भारतीय बैकग्राउंड में थी लेकिन गब्बर की डेन यहाँ दक्षिण के कर्णाटक में , बंगलोर से 60 km दूर, रामनगर के रामदेवरा बेट्टा में थी. जहाँ फिल्म में उसकी खोह का चारों ओर पथरीला पहाड़ उसके दिल को ही प्रतिबिंबित करता था- बंजर, क्रूर,सूखा,जहाँ एक अंकुर भी प्रेम और दया का कभी न फूटा हो ; लेकिन आज ये स्थान उसके ठीक विपरीत – हरा-भरा और रुमानियत से लबरेज है. इतना सुहाना और सुकून दायी कि गब्बर भी यहाँ आकर ग़ालिब ही बन बैठे।

बृहदीश्वरा मंदिर, तंजावुर

दक्षिण के मंदिरों में विमान (tower) का एक रोचक इतिहास है. तंजावुर के बृहदीश्वरा से पहले बने मंदिरों का विमान ऊंचाई में मध्यम रहा. राजजचोला और फिर राजेंद्र चोला के बने मंदिरों में विमान की ऊंचाई अधिकतम रही. फिर उसके बाद पुनः विमान की ऊंचाई कम होती गई, लेकिन गोपुरम की ऊंचाई बढ़ती ही चली गई.
